A great deal of rice nutrition is found in the outer layer of the rice kernel, called the bran. In the case of wholegrain brown rice, this layer is left on the kernel, and is responsible for the darker colour and chewier texture of the rice, as well as much of the protein and fibre contained in the grain. In addition, brown rice still includes the germ of the rice kernel; this part of the plant is full of B vitamins and healthy oils.
Two of the most notable nutritional benefits found in wholegrain brown rice are protein and dietary fibre. Wholegrain brown rice is rich in insoluble fibre and is also a natural source of antioxidants.
