The Wonders of Quinoa

It’s been called a “super-food,” a “wonder-grain,” and many other impressive names. So, why is quinoa so nutritious?

There’s a good reason for quinoa inspiring this kind of devotion from its fans. Protein, fibre, antioxidants – you name it, quinoa’s got it. Having just recently found popularity in North America, this nutty little grain should be a meal staple for many years to come.

Whole Grain Quinoa

Quinoa is another example of a whole grain. Whole grains are grains sold without any processing or nutrient removal. They provide fibre, and essential vitamins and minerals, such as potassium and magnesium. The Canadian Health Network advises that at least half of our daily grain servings should be whole grains**.

When you add all of these wonderful nutritional benefits to those of rice, you get a dish that’s bursting with wholesome goodness and flavour – truly the best of both worlds. Head over to our recipes page for tips on cooking with quinoa.
